My wife dared me to find about a movie she enjoyed when child, she says is about a community of elves, fairies that lived in sequoias, she think is Disney, but I looked with her through Disney catalogs and can’t find it. She is 36 now and remembers that the movie was already old when she saw it.

I think she might be thinking of Fern Gully. It’s not a Disney movie, but it is animated, which explains why she thought it was. Alternatively, if she is thinking of a live-action movie and it was indeed an older film (Fern Gully came out when I was a kid and I’m younger than your wife), then I’d put my money on it being “The Gnome Mobile.” It starred the same two children who were in Mary Poppins.
