I was watching sleeping beauty and the fairies kept on calling the princess rose! I was pretty sure her name’s aurora though. So is rose just a nickname for aurora?
They were calling her Briar Rose because they had renamed her so Maleficent wouldn’t know that she was really Princess Aurora.
Matera-A City with Fairy Tale
Matera is a small city which is located in the south of Italy. It takes us more than four hours to get there from Rome by car. When all of us feel so tired on the way, the scenery out of the window cheers everyone up. In front of us is a quiet stone city. The whole city turns on bright yellow in the sun. As the appearance of the houses is of primitive simplicity, it may make you feel that is just here that the prince in the Sleeping Beauty kisses the sleeping princess to be awake. Although there are no brambles, roses or cirrus twisting around, it is like a place where the time seems immobile and is so quiet that you can only hear the sound of breeze passing by your ears.
The center of Matera now was once the place where the poor lived together. People built the houses one by one tightly with narrow space which could even make people can’t breathe in order that the place could hold all of them here. Nowadays, local people still live in some of the old houses while the other houses are developed into some luxurious hotels. The lucky thing is that the change for the tourism doesn’t destroy the original construction of the old city at all. If you don’t go deep into the hotel and only see the small reception center, you can’t know the designers how to do the change following the original style and features. Even when notching in the wall for decoration, they are careful to keep away from the shells, whelks and so on which are in the stones from the stone time. The tall space of every room can make you feel that you are the person in a castle.
Matera can turn on different looks in different time of one day. That is due to the people’s protection to the old city. In the evenings, People of the city especially the old people would have a walk in the center square in twos and threes. As the city is small, they can meet the acquaintances often when they walk here, then they stop to have a chat with each other to their heart’s content. They maybe only talk about some triviality, but you can see they are calm and happy from their faces. The crime rate here is so low that the police only manage the things like parking in disorder. When the old people are chatting happily, the night light are turned on. The whole world changes to a new look as if the magician does that.
